Fairy tales are not the only things ripe for revision.
Arthur John Elsley was a highly popular English painter of the late Victorian and Edwardian eras, best known for his warm, sentimental scenes of children with their pets, especially dogs and horses.
Wake Up! It's Christmas Morning! is one of Elsley's most beloved Christmas-themed paintings. Created around 1909, it depicts an excited older girl and the family dog peering over a bed to awaken a younger child on Christmas morning.
It remains one of Elsley's most recognizable images and is frequently reproduced as a Christmas print, appreciated for its timeless portrayal of childhood excitement on Christmas Day.
The scene captures the anticipation, innocence, and joy associated with childhood in an Edwardian household.
So, I just couldn’t resist. The story needed re-written. Don’t worry, this was not an original Elsley oil painting.
I over-painted and changed it into something slightly more sinister. No more cuddly puppy and loving sister sister— just a spider or two.
This is a 1 of 1, matted & framed piece that is just one part of the Raven’s Rhymes Reborn book launch & Veteran’s Day fundraiser for the Three Rangers Foundation on November 14th.
It could be yours.
